siding and windows...

Those boys have been busy! The house is almost entirely framed. The windows and siding are in on the sorth side and the insulation is in on the south. Isn't the sky magical up there...?

framing is as framing does :)

Somewhere up there is going to be a bathroom.
This is the south side of the house. You can see the BIG almost floor to ceiling windows that will be right in front. Ahhhhhhhh - we love the whole natural light idea...

The view from our kitchen sink to be.

Entrance to the house. Door on framed left - window framed on right. :)

THERE IS A ROOF!!!!

and did we mention there is a beaver pond?

There is a beaver pond. It is the most tranquil spot I have known. There is a trail that goes to it from our land and we skiied/snowshoed out there this weekend. Luna and Greg had a blast throwing snow and sticks into the water and I just sat in the peace and listened to the water gurgling by.....
It's VERY important to wear protective goggles *at* all times when skiing or generally having fun outside...

Work site visit - Monday, Monday

Luna and I went out today to take some pictures. Everyone was out working and the sky (as you can see) was the most amazing blue.... We were able to watch them lift up the beams and fit them into the posts using this machine.

We chose a roof color - "burnished slate" - through abc roofing company - here's the link to the color chart. You can't really tell, but it's a sort of dark warm charcoal color.

a most special spot

Luna and I went out to the house tonight. It feels like we're going home each time we go there. This is the most beautiful place on earth and it's where we are going to call home.
I am so filled with gratitude and wonder as I look at these pictures.

below, Luna is standing where our couch will be ...

This is the south west corner of the house.

Above picture has Luna standing where our kitchen table will be and behind her will be the kitchen - below is a shot of the moon rising over our house and hills.

notching the beams

This is a sign that Luna made for the house site. It says "Burkland House - Luna, Dad, Emily. Somehow I am Emily on all of our little family things like this. It's really funny. She writes Luna Dad on most of her artwork and if she thinks to add me it's "Emily". Below is wanda out at the site. We had just gotten our snow tires on and I was interested to see how they would do.

Yesterday Greg, Luna and I all went out to the land. It was so sunny and just so absolutely beautiful. Really and truly one of the most beautiful spots I have ever known. It is so hard to really believe we will be living there soon. Next winter THAT will be the field where I will be skiing. I can carve tracks all around the pond. Perhaps we'll clear it and skate there... It is so full of promise and perfection it is almost more than I can really take in.

Today I went out again to take some pictures. The 24 foot "tree" is the beam that will go down the middle of our house. Richard was out there yesterday while we were there and we watched him drill the holes and then carve out the notches. I guess the wood will all fit together eventually like a giant puzzle. Greg is telling me that the beams for the second floor will fit into those notches. The posts are what go up and down....

Richard also showed us this place on the beam where there is a giant knot from a giant branch that had been growing there. Since it's so freshly cut, it might run sap. The idea of it makes me smile inside. What a LIVE house. We are trying to really make a space where there is wood everywhere and the materials we use have a high vibration - as close to nature as we can get. It seems to be happening....

If Richard sends me the pictures from the sunny day (my camera was still out of batteries) I will post those as well.

dreaming peace,
Emily
